“Watching Pierre win in Monza was my highlight of this season” - Karun Chandhok wants Pierre Gasly to impress further next season and launch himself into driver market

“Watching Pierre win in Monza was my highlight of this season” – Karun Chandhok wants Pierre Gasly to forget Red Bull and Renault snub and launch himself into the driver market next season.

Pierre Gasly has had a rollercoaster past two seasons in Formula 1. He was a Red Bull driver at the start of 2019 but was ‘demoted’ midway to sister team AlphaTauri. Since then, the Frenchman has arguably been even more impressive than Alex Albon, his replacement at Red Bull. The latter will find out tomorrow if he will continue with Red Bull, or be replaced by Sergio Perez.

As for Pierre Gasly, there were talks of him going back to Red Bull, but he is continuing with AlphaTauri. There were rumors of him replacing Esteban Ocon at Renault/Alpine next season, but that soon fizzled out.

Karun Chandhok issues challenge to Pierre Gasly for 2021

And now Karun Chandhok believes he should use 2021 as a launchpad to get into a bigger and better team. From 2022, the new regulations kick in, with a more level playing field expected. Gasly convincingly beat teammate Daniil Kvyat this season and also won the race at Monza, his first-ever in F1.

“Watching Pierre win in Monza was probably my highlight of this season.”

“He is a lovely guy who has shown incredible mental strength after bouncing back from a very difficult 2019 where not only did his career look in tatters but he also lost his best friend in Anthoine Hubert.”

“While Monza was obviously a one-off, Pierre has well and truly beaten Daniil Kvyat and driven some great races, often with unconventional strategies, to rebuild his reputation. I cannot see him getting back to the main Red Bull team so I think he needs to use 2021 to build on the foundations of this year and launch himself into the driver market outside the Red Bull family.”
