“We are proud that Cyril” – Where has Abiteboul joined after leaving the team principal role at Renault F1?
Cyril Abiteboul surprisingly exited Renault last season, after initially being thought to be given a bigger role in the re-branded Alpine team. Abiteboul had an eventful F1 career, the highlight being his regular fall-outs with Red Bull counterpart Christian Horner.
Sky F1’s Ted Kravitz believes his dismissal was down to the team finishing P5, below McLaren and Racing Point. As things stand, Alpine is P5 again, this time behind McLaren and Ferrari.
“Before the end of last season, we thought Cyril might be going up to a higher position.
“But that didn’t work out when they finished fifth in the Constructors’ last year and it seems Luca de Meo, the Renault CEO, decided Cyril Abiteboul should be made accountable, or carry the can, effectively, for finishing no higher than fifth.”
Guess what? Ricciardo has chosen a tattoo design for Cyril Abiteboul! #F1 #PortugueseGP https://t.co/k6Qsm7ii8e
