Will Kimi Raikkonen's Son Snub Racing and Become an Ice Hockey Player?

2007 F1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen was a unique personality in the sport as he was known for his no-nonsense approach and short responses to questions. While he has always been passionate about racing, the decision to choose a career in F1 did not come easy to him.

He was confused between ice hockey, a sport that is extremely popular in his country, and racing. While he ultimately chose racing, he continues to have a liking for ice hockey.

Off the race track, he is often seen engaging in his passions such as ice hockey. And it is this passion of his that also seems to have his son, Robin, interested.

Will Kimi Raikkonen’s son choose ice hockey as his profession?

In an Instagram story put up by Kimi Raikkonen‘s wife, Minttu, Robin can be seen practising ice hockey at their home. Since this is not the first time that Robin was seen playing ice hockey, it can be assumed that he has a passion for the sport.

And since Raikkonen himself is a sportsperson, there is a realistic chance that Robin too could follow in his father’s footsteps. As for Raikkonen himself, he did not choose ice hockey as his career for arguably the most bizarre reason. The reason was that he did not want to get up early to play the sport.

Kimi Raikkonen decided to hang up his boots at the end of the 2021 season. In his illustrious two-decade-long career (2001-21), he won 21 races and finished on the podium on 103 occasions.

His one and only championship victory came in the 2007 season with Ferrari. This also happens to be the Prancing Horse’s last championship win to this date.

Over his two-decade-long career, Raikkonen has raced for several constructors. He began his career in 2001 with Red Bull Sauber Petronas.

After impressing his bosses at Sauber, he moved to McLaren after just one season. He stayed with McLaren until 2005 and finished second in the championship on two occasions.

In 2007, he moved to Ferrari, with whom he won the championship in his very first season. He stayed with the Prancing Horse until the 2009 season when he decided to take a hiatus from F1 and engage in other forms of motorsport. He tried his hand at Rally and also NASCAR from 2009 to 2011.

In 2011, he returned back to F1 with the Lotus team. He raced with them for two seasons before returning back to Ferrari in 2014. After spending five seasons with the Italian outfit, he joined Alfa Romeo from 2019 to 2021, the year he chose to retire. Since retiring from F1, he spends most of his time with his family.
