“You are always going to compare yourself against Michael Schumacher” – Jenson Button is confident Lewis Hamilton will win record-breaking 8th title next season.
Former world champion Jenson Button is confident compatriot Lewis Hamilton will win the title again next season, and break Michael Schumacher’s all-time record. Button reserved high praise for both the legendary drivers, who have different personalities and racing style, but equally brilliant for the sport. Button and Hamilton were teammates at McLaren during the early F1 days of the latter’s career.
“He wants to win more championships than everyone else, I’m sure.”
“Every driver would love that. Drivers always say ‘We don’t look at numbers, we don’t compare’ but you are always going to compare yourself against Michael Schumacher when you have the same amount of world titles. Those two are extraordinary individuals, very different in their personality from the way they go racing but equally as talented. Lewis is in the right place to beat Michael’s record and I really do think he will next year.”
Excited for the 2022 regulation change – Jenson Button
Jenson Button also expressed excitement for the regulation changes that will come into force in 2022, which is expected to make the races more competitive, especially with the budget caps. Button expects Hamilton to be on the top of his game when that happens, and still prove his dominance.
“When the new season starts, which is only in March, he will be ready to race, he will be at the top of his game and come out of the blocks for that pole position and that victory.
He’s now a team co-owner, but as 2009 #F1 world champion Jenson Button reveals in an exclusive interview, his passion for driving is undiminished, with ambitions to return to the Le Mans 24 Hours – and one day drive for his own team – a key ambition:https://t.co/gTY09qBkl0

Button is also hopeful the regulation change will bring teams like Red Bull, Aston Martin, Ferrari, McLaren, and Renault in for a genuine shot at the title, something found lacking last decade, with Red Bull and Mercedes thoroughly dominating the sport.
“I really do hope that in 2022 that other teams can challenge Mercedes because it makes for a better sport and I think also Lewis would enjoy that. Lewis would enjoy the challenge from the likes of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Daniel Ricciardo, and that is really what the sport wants to see – him truly fighting at the front for those victories.”
