“You won’t win overnight”- Ex-Ferrari driver advices them ahead of 2021
“You won’t win overnight”- Ex-Ferrari driver Rene Arnoux claims that Ferrari has a long battle to fight before they seriously think of championship.
Ferrari had a woeful performance year in 2020. Even going into 2021 season, they aren’t thinking of challenging their usual rivals- Mercedes and Red Bull, instead of aiming a spot beneath them.
Still, it would require a lot of work, considering other teams are also getting better, which is why ex-Ferrari driver Rene Arnoux feels Ferrari needs a massive redevelopment before going ahead.
RacingNews365 quoted him, saying, “It’s about putting the right people in the right positions within the team and that all departments work well together. You can have everything at home, but if the people are not aligned, then you are nowhere.”
Mattia Binotto has been regarded as one of the best engineers ever to grace the sport, his ability as a team leader has been questioned, and Arnoux subtly points out that.
“Enzo Ferrari and Jean Todt, for example, knew how to manage everything very well at Ferrari. Todt may not have known how to design a car, but he knew exactly how to shape a team.”
“He made sure that everything was ready for people who came to work there, and that is how the results came. That is the difference with now,” he added.
Keep the expectations low.
Despite the excitement around the new Ferrari lineup, and declared amendments by the management, Arnoux feels that Ferrari should keep their expectations low for the time being.
He claims that it would take a huge transitional phase before Ferrari could even challenge their rivals head-to-head, and it has to first capture the small wins.
“I share my idea about the methods that should be applied. But every change takes time, and you won’t win overnight. I don’t believe Ferrari can work miracles in 2021,” said the Frenchman.
