Faf has adpated well to all three formats

South Africa’s chances in the ongoing series against India have taken a huge blow, as skipper Faf du Plessis has been ruled out through injury.

Du Plessis injured his finger in the first ODI while fielding, as he went for a catch and grazed his finger. He went off the pitch for some medical examination as the team management needed to examine him more closely.

After thorough examination, doctors have informed the team management and Du Plessis that his injury will take at least three to six weeks to heal completely.

This will come as a huge shock to the South African team, that is already missing the services of star batsman AB de Villiers for the first three ODIs.

After losing the first match, the Proteas will be looking to bounce back in Cape Town, as they cannot afford to lose two consecutive matches.

South Africa won the toss in Durban and du Plessis decided to bat first, as Kohli’s men tried to restrict the hosts to a small enough total.

Batting first, South Africa started off well as Amla and de Kock gave the Proteas a quick enough start,. But Kohli quickly turned to his spin duo, as Chahal and Yadav spun a web around the batsmen.

Kuldeep and Chahal picked up five wickets between each other, and gave only 79 runs in their allotted twenty overs.

But du Plessis was imperious, as he scored a brilliant 120 in 112 deliveries and held the inning together.

In the absence of AB de Villiers, Faf took on more responsibility and rose to the occasion. Faf was given great support by Chirs Morris, as the all-rounder scored 37 very important runs for his side.

In reply, captain Kohli was marvelous for his side as his 33rd ODI century gave India a 1-0 lead in the six-match series.

South Africa will have AB de Villiers back for the Johannesburg ODI which will come as a huge boost. India will be extremely confident of winning the series, as they will not get a better opportunity to win a series in South Africa again.

All eyes will now turn to Virat Kohli!
