Ernesto Valverde has identified five players as the Catalan club looks set to challenge for European glory next season.
FC Barcelona are on course to finish the La Liga season unbeaten. If they succeed, they would become the first team since 1938 to win a league season being invincible.
However, according to a latest report by Don Balon, Barcelona can spend upto 250m on transfers this summer.
The Spanish media outlet reports that Erneste Valverde has demanded five players for the squad this summer. The Barcelona manager attempts to work on the squad depth, and hence has identified these players.
According to Enreste Valverde’s “list”, players like Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Alonso, Fabian Ruiz, Alvaro Odriozola and Arthur Melo could make their way to Nou Camp.
Antoine Griezmann is poised to join the Catalan club this summer. Marcos Alonso, however, is reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar as well.
Don Balon reports that the total cost of acquiring these five players would amount up to €250m.
Barcelona looks set for a major overhaul as Andres Iniesta will leave at the end of the season. Even when Valverde has said that Coutinho can ideally replace Iniesta, he stressed that club needs to monitor transfer market.
FC Barcelona has been linked to Griezmann for quite long and reports also suggest that his deal would involve Luis Suarez leaving the Catalan club.
Barcelona need to ensure a win or draw in their remaining two games to ensure an unbeaten season in the La Liga. Ernesto Valverde has emphasised that the club’s priority at the moment is to finish the season on a high.
“If we are thinking of players for next season, I think we will lose that competitive edge. It’s a distraction,” Valverde said.
FC Barcelona will play their penultimate game of the season tonight against Levante.
