Fernando Alonso gives update on his F1 future
Fernando Alonso will be featuring in his 300th Grand Prix in Montreal this Sunday and is all decked up for the big day.
300 races is no mean feat for a driver and Alonso will enjoy the day as much as he can. However, with every approaching milestone there is always the talk of ‘retirement’ and the ‘R’ word was once again thrown at Alonso this time round.
The rumour mill suggested that Alonso was a little ‘bored’ with F1 and hence had opted for other racing pursuits as well.
However, Alonso has quashed all those rumours and is positive about staying in F1 for many years to come.
“I already signed [with McLaren] last year,” he said as quoted by Racefans.
“It is a multi-year contract. I have many more years [here].”
“I’m not bored
“It’s obviously the top series in motorsport. It’s where we all dream to come one day when we are go-kart drivers.
“But it’s true that in the last years, especially with the turbo era, things are so predictable.
“This is race seven, there are 21 races, and we all know what is going to happen in the next 14 races. This is very sad for the sport.
“It’s nothing against Formula 1, it’s not that I get tired of F1, it’s just I know that I will come here and I will fight from seventh to 12th and I will finish the season in Abu Dhabi fighting from seventh to 12th.” he added.
Alonso’s commitments with WRC haven’t affected his hunger to perform in Formula 1 and hopefully he can get a few podium finishes this year.
