Fernando Calero to Arsenal: Unai Emery has identified the Real Valladolid defender as a valuable addition to the defence.

Arsenal secured three points last weekend against Huddersfield as Lucas Torreira scored a brilliant bicycle kick. The side is currently 5th in the league, and level on points with 4th-placed Chelsea.

Unai Emery’s side has been impressive in this season so far, but the manager is keen on making additions in the January window.

Arsenal’s defence has been a significant cause of worry for the Spanish head coach. The consistent injuries throughout the season have further raised concerns over the second half of the season.

Konstantinos Mavropanos and Rob Holding are currently out with injuries, while Laurent Koscielny is yet to make his appearance for Arsenal under Unai Emery. With Sokratis and Mustafi being the only defensive duo in central defence, the club is desperate to add valuable addition to the position.

Fernando Calero to Arsenal:

The Real Valladolid defender has played in every La Liga game for Real Valladolid so far. Calero will be available for 11 million euros in the January transfer window according to Spanish outlet Cadena Sar, and Unai Emery is keen on the player.

Unai Emery reportedly has identified the 23-year old defender as a ‘ready-made replacement’ for Rob Holding, who suffered an injury during the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Spanish club, presently 14th in La Liga, is keen on tying down Calero to a new deal, but will be powerless if Arsenal triggers the clause in his contract in January.

Cadena Sar also reports that Calero would be a perfect signing for Unai Emery’s style, as the defender can adapt to a back three or a flat back four formation.

The Gunners are eyeing for a top-4 finish in the Premier League this season, and have already qualified for the round-of-32 of the Europa League.

Arsenal will be up against Qarabag in their final group game of the European tournament on Thursday, and will travel to Southampton on the weekend.
