The 18th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 gets underway today with Asia set to host the frontier tournament for the third time. After a hiatus of 13 years, the expansive Basketball World Cup returns to the region with China being selected to host the tournament this time around.
And in a bid to extend the game’s reach and see it become a truly global one, the latest instalment of the World Cup will see 32 countries partaking in the tournament for the first time ever. Spread out over 8 groups with each group consisting of four teams, the participating countries will battle it out over a period of 16 days in a bid to walk away with the glistening trophy under their arms at the culmination of the tournament.
