Frenkie De Jong to Barcelona

Frenkie De Jong has agreed on a move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona have been searching for a quality midfielder for a long time since the departure of Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Indeed, they were able to lure both Artur Melo and Arturo Vidal to Camp Nou, but they do lack a deep-lying playmaker like Xavi.

After a continuous tussle with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, the reigning La Liga Champions are said to land Frenkie De Jong in the summer transfer window. The fee is believed to in the region of 90 million Euros which will make him the most expensive Dutch player in the history after Virgil Van Dijk, and third most Barcelona’s costliest player following Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

The Dutch International has impressed over the last two years with the Netherlands top tier side Ajax. Moreover, his form with his country has been impressive, and Ronald Koeman has already made him a regular starter for the national side.

It is believed that Frenkie has rejected a late approach from Paris Saint-Germain to join the Blaugrana. The French outfit offered him 10 million including installments, but Josep Bartomeu was waiting with 16 million in his bag already.

When Barcelona officials got to know that the French outfit were going for a late assault, he flew to the Netherlands to close down the deal which is expected to be announced officially soon or rather than later.

Many publications reported that Paris Saint-Germain were favourites to land him last week, but the reliable Di Marzio has confirmed that he has opted to snub elsewhere to join Nou Camp outfit.

The report also adds on that Frenkie De Jong’s agent Ali Dursun has already informed Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City that his client will be joining the La Liga outfit.

At the age of 21, the midfielder has shown such maturity and has won over plenty of fans and scouts already. He was signed from Willem II for a transfer fee of 300K in 2015. He played two years in the second tier and made his debut two years later.

He has an experience of just of two years in top-flight football, but Barcelona have fantastic talent in their bag with the acquisition of the 21-year-old.
