Ganguly lashes out at Langer

Ganguly lashes out at Langer: Former India captain was critical of Australian coach’s comments regarding the Indian captain.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly recently criticized former Australia opening batsman and current coach Justin Langer over his remarks regarding India captain Virat Kohli’s blatant on-field celebrations.

During India’s first innings, Kohli was his usual expressive self on the ground, often cheering and shouting whenever his bowlers dismissed an opposition batsman. While there wasn’t much objectionable in Kohli’s deeds, he ended up becoming the centre of attraction.

On the morning of the third day of the match when rain had interrupted play for a significant amount of time, Langer was seen giving an interview to Fox Sports. The Australian coach laid emphasis on the fact that had his players done the same, they would have been termed as ‘Worst Blokes’ around the world.

Speaking on IndiaTV for their show ‘Cricket Ki Baat’, on being asked about the same, Ganguly said that Langer should first look at his teammates and then comment on Kohli’s celebrations.

“I would like to say one thing to Justin Langer. He should watch old footage of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath or Jason Gillespie from India’s previous tours to Australia and then say something,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly was optimistic about India registering their sixth Test victory down under. Asked about India’s chances in the match, he was quoted, “Yes, I can smell victory too. But India is still not totally safe. For Australia it will be tough to bat out there in the last innings.”

Currently India are on the brink of registering a rare Test victory in Australia. With one more day remaining, India require six wickets to win, whereas the hosts require another 219 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.
