Gautam Gambhir in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018: The Indian batsman achieved some milestones on his 37th birthday.

During the second Quarter final of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy between Delhi and Haryana at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, veteran Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir scored his 21st List A century at a swift pace.

Earlier, long-serving Indian spinner Amit Mishra, captain of Haryana, had won the toss and chose to bat. On the back of Kulwant Khejroliya’s second List A five-wicket haul and career best figures of 10-2-31-6, Haryana ended up scoring 229-10 in 49.1 overs.

Opening batsman Chaitanya Bishnoi top-scored for his team, scoring 85 (117) with the help of six fours and two sixes. Apart from Khejroliya, his new-ball opening partner in Navdeep Saini also chipped in with bowling figures of 8.1-0-39-3.

Opening the batting with wicket-keeper Unmukt Chand, Gambhir provided his team with a whirlwind start, scoring 54-1 in the first six overs. Delhi crossed the 100-run mark in the 16th over with Gambhir already scoring a half-century.

Despite the required run rate being well in control, not for a moment did Gambhir looked to step down from the accelerator. Gambhir got out on the fourth delivery of the 28th over after scoring 104 (72) with the help of 16 fours.

Apart from just scoring a century, Gambhir also achieved a significant milestone, becoming only the ninth batsman to score 10,000 runs in List A cricket. Having scored a career-best List A score earlier in the tournament, this was Gambhir’s second century in eight matches.

After scoring 490 runs in eight matches at an average of 61.25 and a strike rate of 117.78, Gambhir is currently the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Delhi ended up winning the match in the 40th over as Manan Sharma (11) and Pranshu Vijayran (0) steered them to victory. Watch some of the recent Twitter reactions regarding Gambhir below:
