Gautam Gambhir opens up on the Delhi Daredevils’ loss
Delhi were in familiar territory once again, pinned to the wall, sporting that sheepish smile of helplessness and ending the match way before the stipulated time.
The leadership though had some marked difference, with Gambhir marshalling his troops despite the match situation, egging them on to show intensity in their demeanour no matter how the events of the match unfolded.
However, it wasn’t good enough, because the damage had been done by KL Rahul in the first 3 overs of the 2nd innings, scoring a half century that would be spoken about for a long time to come.
Gambhir felt that DD had enough on the board in the 1st innings but for that freak knock from KL Rahul.
He also credited the Delhi bowlers to have pulled back the game and taken it to the 19th over.
“I thought that we got a decent total on the board but in the first 6 overs (of the chase), they put it beyond us. Credit to our bowlers, they fought back well to drag it into the 19th over. (Whether DD were short of runs) No, I thought that 160-165 was a good total because the old ball wasn’t easy to get away. Hence, the first 6 overs were key. (On DD’s fine support staff) Yes, we have a good start with Ricky and many others in the backroom staff. Hopefully we can get things right.” Gambhir said in the post match presentation as reported by Cricbuzz.
Delhi will now look to regroup and hope that Maxwell comes in for the next game after having completed his prior engagements at Aaron Finch’s marriage.
