Barcelona star defender Gerard Pique arrested for driving without a valid license, and now could face criminal charges.
Barcelona’s defender Gerard Pique is on risk of facing criminal charges after he was caught driving without a valid license. Pique was pulled over for a routine check and asked to show documentation. It was found, however, that he had no license points due to his previous driving offences.
Spanish radio outlet Cadena Sar has reported that Pique will now be summoned for trial, as driving without points on the license is considered a criminal offence according to the Spanish law. The Spanish footballer could face anything from a fine of €6,000 to six-month prison sentence.
Pique was earlier handed a €10,500 fine for altercation with traffic police officer. In 2011, he was also caught on the front seat with one of his children in his arm.
It is yet to be known whether Pique will serve a jail term or be handed over the €6,000 fine.
The Spanish star defender has been central to Barcelona’s success in the La Liga last year, when the Catalan giants completed the domestic double. Barcelona lost only one match in the La Liga throughout the season.
Gerard Pique made a solid start to the 2018/19 campaign for Barcelona as well. The Catalans have kept a clean sheet in both of their matches so far.
