Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes suffered a massive setback in Austria, as the Brit had to give up the lead in the driver’s standings following a power loss during the Austrian GP.

Raceday as a whole was pretty frustrating for Hamilton, as despite having taken the lead on Turn 1 he slipped down the pile due to a VSC goof up on part of his strategy team.

Now, before the all important Silverstone GP, Hamilton and Red Bull have conceded that Ferrari have the best engine amongst the top 3 teams.

Red Bull are coming off a win in Austria, as Verstappen drove admirably to hold onto his lead despite pressure from both Ferrari’s towards the end of the race.

“They have a super engine,” Red Bull’s Christian Horner said of Ferrari’s unit.

“Our chassis is probably the best of the top three cars, but we couldn’t get past them. They have power to spare,” Christian Horner said.

Helmut Marko too echoed Horner’s words saying that Ferrari were a bit ahead in terms of their engine.

“You do not have to look too hard to see the impressive power they have,” he said.

While Red Bull’s statements can be taken seriously, Hamilton too has come out and said that Ferrari have a superior engine to Mercedes’.

“They’re ahead of us in that sense, there’s no question,” Hamilton said.

These statements come after Mercedes’ 1-2 in Austria.

Sauber too have commended the Ferrari engine, claiming that it has had a massive effect on how well Sauber have performed this season.

“Having the same version of the Ferrari engine is making all the difference for us,” Frederic Vasseur said.

“We are improving our chassis step by step, but it is undeniable that we have the help of this year’s engine.” he added.
