Hockey India has been in buyout mood recently as India’s performances in recent hockey tournaments have been very encouraging. This is not just restricted to the national team as India has been performing well even in the junior categories. So yesterday we got to know that Hockey India recommends former captain for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sporting honor in the country.
Sardar Singh has been one of the best hockey players that India has produced over the last decade. Ever since he made his debut for India against Pakistan in the junior team, Singh has come on leaps and bounds.
Singh was soon recognized as one of the best players in the world as he found a place in the 2010 and 2011 FIH All Star teams. His fitness and energy won him many fans as he soon made a name for himself.
He was named as the youngest captain of the Indian team in 2008 when he led the side into the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He was also the recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2012 and the Padma Shri in 2015.

While Sardar is the front runner for the award, he faces stiff competition.
Other players such as SV Sunil, Dharamvir Singh and Deepika have been recommended for the prestigious Arjuna Award while RP Singh and Sumrai Tete are in consideration for the Dhyan Chand award.
The Sports ministry will form a committee which will the adjudicate the players and give them the awards.
