Glenn Maxwell on being overlooked from Test team

Glenn Maxwell on being overlooked from Test team: The Australian all-rounder thinks that he has a lot to offer the Australian Test team.

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been overlooked for a spot in Australia’s Test team yet again. The same happening in times when Australia require a few batsmen who can cement their place in the Test squad speaks highly of the selectors’ faith on the 30-year old cricketer.

Maxwell refrained from playing in County cricket last season in a bid to get selected for Australia A’s tour of India last year. Apparently, the India tour was considered to be an audition for the tour of UAE later in the year.

However, Maxwell was not named in the squad for India, leave aside the tour of UAE. Showing his loyalty for Australia, Maxwell opted to pull out of the IPL auction for the 12th season of the tournament.

He believes that all these are clear signs of him wanting to play Test cricket for Australia. “This is a pretty clear sign that I still want to play Test cricket. To knock back a chance to play was a big decision and a tough decision. It’s not something you make lightly, but the thought of playing Test cricket again still burns deep.

“I still desperately want to get back out there and I still think I have a lot to offer the Australian Test team,” Maxwell was quoted as saying to Herald Sun.

Australia National Selector Trevor Horns was impressed at Maxwell choosing to play for Australia over anything else and credited the all-rounder for the same.

“Glenn has chosen to go and play county cricket again this year and a lot of that is one-day cricket leading up to the World Cup. He has also chosen not to put his name in for the IPL so that’s all credit to him for doing that.

“He is genuinely trying to improve himself and give himself the best possible opportunity to have some practice in England leading into the Ashes if he is chosen, leading into the World Cup. Full credit to him for that,” Hohns said.
