Cummins on Smith's ban not being lifted

Cummins on Smith’s ban not being lifted: The Australian fast bowler has said that the banned Australian captain is disappointed.

Despite CA (Cricket Australia) making public the decision that the banned trio of Steven Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will have to serve their full terms, opinions regarding the same doesn’t seem to stop. It is something which also speaks highly about the impact of this news on the cricket in the country.

One of the latest cricketers to be vocal about the same is current Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins. In an interview with cricket.com.au, Cummins spoke about Smith being hopeful regarding the ban being reduced and consequently being disappointed about the verdict.

“I think he’s pretty disappointed. I think he was hopeful of that getting lifted. But to be honest I think he’s just over it all the speculation and talk. He’s just over it. He wants to play some cricket,” Cummins was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

The trio was banned in the aftermath of the infamous Cape Town ball tampering saga. While Bancroft was banned for nine months, the duo of Smith and Warner was banned for a year. The trio has been seen playing cricket here or there but won’t be allowed to take part in the Sheffield Shield or the BBL (Big Bash League).

Cummins added that Smith is currently in a ‘good place’ and wants to get over all of this now. “There’s some good T20 comps around the world coming up that hopefully he’ll go and play. I think he’s sick of all the talk. He said he’s in a really good place. He’s happy, he’s playing obviously he’d love to be playing the Tests and everything else coming up. But he’s just ready to get over it,” Cummins added.
