Former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s wicket-keeping gloves have been doing the rounds during the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
In a development which has transformed into a burning controversy in India, it commenced after an army insignia on Dhoni’s keeping gloves came under the limelight during India’s tournament opener against South Africa.
Citing ICC’s rules for clothing/equipment in the World Cup, nothing more than two manufacturer’s logos are allowed on the backside of the gloves. Therefore, Dhoni having the army insignia on his gloves violated the rules.

Most recently, CoA (Committee of Administrators) chief Vinod Rai opened on seeking flexibility on the “non-issue” from the ICC.

In their media report, ICC laid emphasis Dhoni not being allowed to display any logo of such nature and also spoke regarding what is allowed on the wicket-keeper’s gloves for ICC tournaments.
It is worth mentioning that the legendary cricketer’s act hasn’t disrespected anyone in racial, religious or commercial manner. However, granting him the permission could have put ICC in a difficult position regarding future requests of similar nature. Furthermore, varying intentions behind such requests can bring uncalled for ramifications for the sport.

How Twitter reacted:
Can we please agree that MSD does not need to prove his patriotism by wearing insignia. He is a patriot and a legend of the game. Insignia or no insignia this won’t change. Here he is on a mission to win the World Cup. That should be priority.

My unasked for advice to Dhoni: You lose nothing by agreeing to ICC Rules no matter how intrusive it is. Terminate the controversy which nothing to with your awe inspiring cricket. Anti Indian forces would like this controversy to grow
