Chris Paul might have had a legendary career as a basketball player, many call him the God of Point position, and he has several individual records to back it up, but the 12x All-Star isn’t as respected as a person around the league as other legends of the game.

A lot of it has to do with his antics in the game which includes a lot of flopping and playing rough when things aren’t going his way. And one of his biggest haters in the NBA is Patrick Beverley.
The Lakers’ guard hates the guts of the Suns’ future First Ballot Hall Of Fame and has been vocal about it for a long time. The man even believes CP3 is way too overrated and spoke at length about it when Paul and Phoenix choked in the 2022 Playoffs.
However, what Pat Bev said recently goes beyond the dislike he has had for the top-3 assists leader of all time.

In a recent appearance on comedian Kevin Hart’s Cold As Balls, the former Timberwolves guard talked about how he feels about the “Point God” (Bev did the air quotes, literally) and answered Hart’s question on their relationship in a peculiar way.
“No relationship,” Beverley said. “Obviously! He’s in a position (that demands mutual respect) – Point God. Every time I see Chris Paul, it’s smoke. But that comes from all of the things and all the success that he’s had in his basketball career. But yeah, is it pre-season, and I’m picking you up full-court? F*ck yeah. So from now on, until you retire, or until I retire, or until my f*cking bones pop out my f*cking knees, I’m going to hound you. Every single time. And it’s until we’re done.”
Can Beverley pick CP3 up full-court all game? 7 games?
Maybe he can. The man earns his bread for defense. However, good a defender Beverley is, we have all noticed his tendency of speaking too much and not being able to back it up. Although he doesn’t even get as many opportunities on the offensive side of the ball to affect the game, it’s on him that he is not that good.
Whereas, Paul, at 37 years of age, in his 18th year in the league is as effective as a young guard in the league. His tendency changes during the Playoffs, where Beverley might not even reach this season with how he and his Lakers have been playing this season.
Let’s hope we’d see this matchup in the 2023 Playoffs. If Beverley walks his talk, he might probably get the respect he deserves from the basketball community.
