IndyCar releases statement after Alonso’s retirement in wake of speculation of the Spaniard joining the series after F1

Fernando Alonso shocked the F1 world last night by announcing that he won’t be racing in F1 from 2019.

McLaren and Alonso released emotional statements to top off the announcement. Alonso was thankful to the McLaren team, to all his previous teams, engineers and fellow drivers.

However, he admitted that it was now time for a new adventure, one that he was looking forward to.

While F1 fans were reminiscing about Alonso’s illustrious career , IndyCar fans want Alonso to make that swift switch to IndyCar.

Alonso is just a Indy 500 win away from achieving the elusive triple crown, having already won the Monaco GP and Le Mans 24.

The company that owns IndyCar, Hulman & Company got its President and CEO, Mark Miles to release a statement about the entire ‘Alonso to IndyCar’ speculation.

“Today’s announcement certainly has fuelled excitement among INDYCAR fans who hope that Alonso will compete throughout the championship in 2019,” Miles said.

“McLaren is working to put all the necessary arrangements in place, and we are supporting their efforts. I don’t expect this to be resolved until closer to the end of this year.” he added.

Alonso did race the Indy500 last night by missing the Monaco GP. However, he couldn’t win it due to an engine failure with 21 laps to go.

Ryan Hunter-Reay recently told the media that he was dying to work with Alonso once again.

“That would be great, absolutely,” Hunter-Reay said.

“I’ve been saying it for a while, this series is the most competitive series in the world, no doubt. You cannot name who is going to win each race. There are no favorites. There’s a long list of winners even from this year. You have a really tight championship.

“It would be appealing to me, if I were him. I spent time with him as his teammate. He’s as hungry as ever to win. I think INDYCAR is a great spot. INDYCAR stock continues to rise for that reason.” he added.

Interesting times ahead for Alonso.
