Low self confidence is like a parasite that eats you on the inside, slowly but constantly. It dissolves your inner reserves, pushes you into a dark corner, and crushes your spirit. It creates a void, makes you feel hollow and you are left devoid of any positive vibes.

For all the brilliance that RCB possess in their squad, it’s the lack of self confidence that has destroyed their season this time round. It’s a great advertisement for teams around the globe to focus on mental training as well. because once the mind is clouded, you can’t think straight on the field. Players of the stature of Kohli, ABD, Gayle and Watson have been subjected to so much humiliation this season, that it has fiddled with their mental capabilities, and led to a season full of dejection.

Also, the Chinnaswamy curator has to take some blame for RCB’s downfall. You can’t keep dishing out two paced wickets, when your team is full of powerful stroke makers. RCB have never had a sound bowling attack, and have always depended on their batsman outscoring the opponents, so if the pitch is assisting the bowlers a wee bit, their advantage is knocked right out of the window.

Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn though weren’t for even once affected by the two paced nature of the track, taking the game and RCB’s pride away from them in the power play itself. KKR now look almost assured of that playoff spot and will now want to make that final surge for those first two spots.

The evening game was one where Gujarat Lions decided to be party spoilers for the Kings XI side. A terrific Hashim Amla was neutralised by a brilliant team effort by Smith, Raina and Karthik, chasing down 189 with considerable ease.

Kings XI now need to win all their remaining games, and then hope that a few results go their way.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have been highly impressive with how they have gone about things this year. Getting Jos Buttler to open the innings, using Pollard and Pandya wisely, drafting in Johson when needed and showing a lot of faith in Nitish Rana. No wonder they have already qualified for the playoffs.

With two losses in two, Sunrisers, who were almost certain of a playoff spot, will now have to depend on other results to go their way in order to guarantee themselves a place in the last 4.

Nehra has been ruled out, Siraj should be coming in for him. SRH has always boasted of a very strong bowling line up, but they haven’t really been that brilliant with the ball in the last few games. They need that department to click, otherwise they could bow out in the league stage while trying to defend their title.

Let’s get to business now!

Now, I already have David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvi in my side for this game.

Warner and Bhuvi have been lynchpins of their respective units for SRH in the last 2 years, taking pressure off the other players, as they shoulder a lot of responsibility in taking their team over the line. If you don’t have them, get them in.

Bumrah and Rohit haven’t really set the IPL on fire this season, and with Pollard being pushed up the order in the last game, Rohit’s impact potential got further lowered. With Rana running out of steam in the past few games, I hope Rohit slots himself back into the top 3, because that would be the best place for him to create maximum impact. Bumrah should be helping himself to a few cheap wickets during the death overs, and with Mumbai playing a game every third day, till the end of the league, it is almost mandatory to get him in.

With almost all bases covered from this game, and due to the paucity of transfers, I won’t be getting in any other player from this game into my side for this game.

For the uncapped player, I’ll be getting in Siddharth Kaul, who has been trusted with death overs duty, especially with Nehra not in the mix. But if the wicket is the one which was used in the last game, Bipul Sharma could prove to be a better option, as he’ll get a lot of purchase from the wicket.

Captain: Bhuvaneshwar Kumar/Jasprit Bumrah(whoever bowls first)

Now, I already have Rohit Sharma, Nitish Rana, David Warner, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvi in my team for this game.

ABD doesn’t play a game until the last day of the IPL, and hence it makes sense to transfer him out, but then the wicketkeeper problem creeps in. Hence, I first try to assess the wicketkeeping options at our disposal. You need to take the number of games that side has left to take the final call.

Karthik, Parthiv, Pant and Samson are our best bets.

Pant, Samson and Karthik are better batsmen that Parthiv and hence I rule out Parthiv immediately. The fact that Samson doesn’t actually keep wickets, rules him out as well. Now, between Pant and Karthik, I’ll be opting for Pant, one because he bats one position higher than Karthik, and two, because Delhi have three games left as opposed to Gujarat’s two.

For the second transfer, I’ll be drafting in Lasith Malinga, who for now, I’ll be carrying all through. Malinga found his mojo back in the last game and with Mumbai playing three games in 7 days, you can expect him to give you at least 150 points. Lendl Simmons could be a great pick as well, but I cannot draft him in right now because of my team combination. I would still suggest you to go with Malinga, even if you can bring Simmons in, as Malinga is a safer choice.

Bowling Star: Bhuvi/Bumrah(whoever bowls second)

Batting Star: David Warner

Happy team picking 🙂
