Rishabh Pant opens up on MS Dhoni's aura

Rishabh Pant opens up on MS Dhoni’s aura: The rookie wicket-keeper batsman was vocal about the legendary cricketer.

Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will have a predominant role to play for his IPL franchise in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. At 21, Pant is doubtlessly a vital cog in the wheel for Capitals.

Into his fourth IPL season, Pant’s stellar record has it in it to make the opposition teams think of him as a game-changer. Given the format of the tournament, the southpaw is most likely to stand tall on the expectations in IPL 2019.

In a recent interview, Pant didn’t hesitate in admitting that the potential spot in the Indian team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will always remain at the back of his mind. Coming on the back of two ODIs against Australia, Pant failed to press his case as well as he would have liked for the world event.

“It will always be at the back of my mind. But right now, I am not focusing on that. I am too focused on the IPL and wanting to make my team win,” Pant was quoted as saying by CricketNext on the sidelines of an event in Delhi.

After Pant’s record-breaking performance in the Test series against Australia earlier this year, India Coach Ravi Shastri had disclosed how Pant is continuously on the phone with former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Considered as a potential replacement for Dhoni after he retired, Pant has often spoke about highly about the legendary figure.

Being asked about the same, Pant mentioned how he talks about his game with Dhoni and how the latter makes everyone comfortable in the dressing room.

“See, as a player I want to keep improving every day. I’ve seen a few areas in my game where I need to work on and I’ve talked about my game to Mahi bhai about that. But as a player, you need to keep improving, every match, every day.

“His [Dhoni] aura is totally different when he comes to the dressing room. The calmness is there, and you can talk to him about anything, any problem. That’s the kind of aura he shares with everyone, he makes you comfortable. He gives you advice, but whether you want to take it or not is your wish,” Pant added.

The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title.
