IPL 2020 News: KKR's Pravin Tambe ineligible for IPL 2020

KKR’s Pravin Tambe ineligible for IPL 2020: The veteran spinner won’t be allowed to take part in the upcoming season of the IPL.

Spinner Pravin Tambe was bought by Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders at his base price of INR 20 lakh in the auction for the next season of the tournament scheduled to begin in the last week of March according to some reports.

At 48, Tambe would have gained a significant lead in the list of oldest players to have played in the history of Indian Premier League.

Having said that, the same won’t happen now as Tambe has been deemed “ineligible” to take part in IPL 2020. Tambe had represented Sindhis in the recently concluded T10 League in Sharjah.

With him violating BCCI’s policy of a player taking part in an overseas league without officially announcing his retirement, he will no have no other option than to miss the tournament.

Having picked eight wickets in four matches at an average of 8.25, an economy rate of 9.20 and a strike rate of 5.3, Tambe finished the T10 league as its sixth-highest wicket-taker.

In four seasons (2013-2016) of the Indian Premier League, Tambe dismissed 28 batsmen in 33 matches at an average of 30.46, an economy rate of 7.75 and a strike rate of 23.57. Having made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals, Tambe went on to play for Gujarat Lions and SunRisers Hyderabad in the following seasons.

It is worth mentioning that former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and fast bowler Manpreet Singh Gony played in the Global T20 Canada last year. However, both the players doing the same after announcing their international retirement wasn’t a concern.

While another veteran spinner in Harbhajan Singh had expressed interest in playing The Hundred this year, he is supposed to have revoked his name to not go against the BCCI’s policy.
