Punjab Kings captain Lokesh Rahul is all set to miss tonight’s match against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis last night.
The development was made public after Kings took to their social media account to share an official statement regarding the 29-year old player.
Having scored 331 runs in seven innings at an average and strike rate of 66.20 and 136.21 respectively, Rahul is the highest run-scorer in the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League. With him scoring heaps of runs for Punjab in the last three seasons, his team is highly likely to miss their in-form captain.
What happened to KL Rahul in IPL 2021?
It is worth mentioning that Rahul had complained of severe abdomen pain last night. Not responding to medication, further tests revealed him getting diagnosed with appendicitis.
As a result, Rahul will have to undergo a surgery. While Punjab haven’t mentioned anything on the exact number of days required for Rahul’s recovery, it is worth mentioning that he will have to undergo a seven-day quarantine period upon returning to IPL bio-bubble.

In Rahul’s absence, it remains unclear if Mayank Agarwal, who had missed the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore due to an injury, has recovered to take the field tonight at the Narendra Modi Stadium or not.
Rahul, who was announced as Kings’ captain last season, will be missing a match for them for the first time. With Punjab not having a designated vice-captain, it will be interesting to see who leads them in Rahul’s absence tonight.
What is acute appendicitis?
Appendicitis is a condition in which the appendix becomes inflamed and filled with pus, causing pain. Appendix is a pouch-like structure attached at start of the large intestine.
In the modern-day world, the role of appendix in our bodies remains unknown. People who get diagnosed with appendicitis often get their appendix removed in a surgical procedure as the same doesn’t affects an individual in any manner.
