As Morocco also tied Spain down to a 2-2 draw, Iran are eliminated from the World Cup. Even as the Asian side faced a disappointing end to the campaign, their supporters won the hearts of football fans around the world after what they did yesterday.

We earlier told you about Iran fans disturbing Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese team, creating noises by vuvuzelas in front of the team hotel late at night. It became so bad that Ronaldo had to come out on the window and gesture the Iranian fans to sleep, and let him do the same in peace.

While Iran’s fans were criticised for their behaviour, many Iranians took to social media to apologise to Ronaldo and his team.

Iran fans apologising for their behaviour.

This is not the first time Ronaldo has been subjected to such behaviour from opposition fans. During his time at Real Madrid, he faced a similar situation during the Champions League away match against Paris Saint Germain in February this year. However, he replied the PSG fans with a terrific hattrick, which ultimately knocked the French club out of the tournament.

Portugal have now reached the round-of-16, and will face the Group A toppers, Uruguay. In the other Group B match, Spain drew 2-2 with Morocco, and the European team will now meet the host nation Russia in the knock-out round.
