J.J. McCarthy’s Cabo Wedding Gives Vikings Fans a Viral Offseason Moment
J.J. McCarthy and Katya Kuropas got married on April 11 in San José del Cabo, Mexico, and the couple announced it on Instagram two weeks later with a photo carousel that quickly made the rounds across NFL social media. It is the kind of offseason content fans crave when the football calendar goes quiet.
McCarthy was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Vikings fans have been invested in his development since the moment his name was called. A torn meniscus wiped out his entire rookie year, and his 2025 campaign – 10 starts, 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, 12 interceptions – left plenty of questions unanswered heading into this offseason.
That backdrop makes every glimpse of his life away from the field feel a little more meaningful to a fanbase still waiting to see who he really is as a quarterback.
Luxury Ceremony in Cabo
The wedding itself was held at Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve property in Mexico. The Instagram post showed the couple alongside their son Rome, who was born in September 2025. Former Vikings safety Cam Bynum, Michigan cornerback Will Johnson, and actor Taylor Lautner were among those who offered congratulations in the Instagram comments, per ESPN.
McCarthy and Kuropas met as high school students at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Illinois, and have been together since 2018. The relationship endured through his college run at Michigan, a national championship, the NFL Draft, two difficult pro seasons, and now a son and a wedding.
NFL fans and Vikings followers responded to the announcement, with the post circulating widely across sports and lifestyle accounts in the days after it went up. It is offseason content at its best: good news, good photos, and no controversy.
Now, the work begins. McCarthy heads into his third NFL season still needing to prove he is Minnesota’s long-term answer under center, and the team has been active this offseason building around him. Training camp will tell us far more than any Instagram wedding post, but for now, Vikings fans will take the win.
