Joao Felix is not happy with Cristiano Ronaldo comparisons.
Joao Felix has expressed his unhappiness about the comparisons with his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. The forward revealed the Juventus forward as his inspiration, but reiterated about his willingness to write his own legacy at Wanda Metropolitano.
The 19-year-old was handed out the number 7 during his unveiling following his €120 million move from SL Benfica. He is seen as Antoine Griezmann’s replacement, but he made an avow of working hard like the former number 7.
“I will simply play and do my job as best I can, to help the club I am with,” Felix told reporters.
When he was asked about the expectations, Felix said that the transfer amount does not put him on the pressure as he is solely focussing on his improvement.
Felix also downplayed comparisons with his teammate on the Portuguese national team, Cristiano Ronaldo who spent a decade at Real Madrid before joining Juventus in 2018.
“He is currently the best in the world, and possibly of all time. When he was with the national team he told me about Madrid and he said he liked it a lot, but I’m here to make my own story,” he said.
“Cristiano is Cristiano and I want to be myself.”
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says Felix has ‘great talent’ and would succeed at Atletico Madrid. He will join his teammates for the pre-season training, whereas, Antoine Griezmann is expected to land his move to Barcelona, despite the recent snag.
Atletico expressed their unhappiness after the French International verbally agreed on a deal with Barcelona in March. The Blaugrana are trying to budge as the price tag is €120 million and could play hardball in the forthcoming days.
