John Campbell-Shai Hope record partnership

John Campbell-Shai Hope record partnership: Twitter was exhilarated by the record partnership from the West Indies batsmen.

During the first match of the ongoing Ireland Tri-Nation Series between Ireland and West Indies at Dublin, West Indies opening batsmen registered the highest-ever opening partnership in ODIs.

After Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss and chose to field, Campbell and Hope saw through the new ball. Having got their eye in, the duo made steady progress towards an exceptional foundation.

While the other batsmen would be thinking of making optimum use of the opening stand, less did they realize that their teammates were in the midst of a world record. Having scored 37 runs in the first powerplay, there might have been some questions raised on the run rate.

However, the pair answered all the questions with converting their individual starts to awe-inspiring innings. Covering up for their slow run rate, Campbell and Hope scored 142/0 by the halfway mark. Having completed respective half-centuries, both of them then scored individual hundreds.

On the penultimate delivery of the 43rd over, Campbell ran a couple of runs off Tim Murtagh to achieve the milestone.

West Indies eventually lost their first wicket in the form of Campbell in the 48th over. The southpaw ended up scoring 179 (137) with the help of 15 fours and six sixes. In what was a case of both the set batsmen getting out in the same over, Hope was dismissed after scoring 170 (152) with the help of 22 fours and a couple of sixes in the same over.

In their allotted quota of 50 overs, WI ended up scoring 381/3. With bowling figures of 10-0-76-2, Barry McCarthy was Ireland’s pick of the bowlers.
