Although they haven’t fielded today thus far, a majority of English cricketers wearing bucket hats have caught the attention of fans especially on social media platform Twitter. For those who don’t know, a “bucket hat” is just another form of hat.

A chief difference between a bucket hat and a floppy hat is that of the size. The former is a bit smaller than the usual hat worn by players during a cricket match. Additionally, it also gives a more casual look as compared to a floppy hat.
It had started with veteran England pacer Stuart Broad chatting with former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull in a video posted by Sky Sports Cricket across their social media handles. Broad, who discussed varying positions of his fingers while swinging the ball either ways, was wearing a bucket hat before play started on the second day of the ongoing one-off Test match against Ireland at the Lord’s.

Soon enough, England captain Ben Stokes and wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow was also spotted donning bucket hats whilst enjoying proceedings from the famous balcony at this venue.
It is noteworthy that English cricketers are wearing bucket hats for no specific reason per se. As mentioned above, much like a regular floppy hat, a bucket hat is also part of cricket gear.
Just like all other official jerseys and caps of the national team, a bucket hat is also available for sale on the official website of the ECB (England Cricket Board). Players, however, are expected to bat/field while wearing regular Test caps/hats and not bucket hats.

Resuming from his overnight score of 60*, England opening batter Ben Duckett could score another 100 runs in the morning session itself on Friday. In what is only his second Test century, the left-handed batter has already crossed the 150-run mark for the first time in his career.
