Jordi Alba new contract: Barcelona defener Jordi Alba has made it clear that he wants to retire at the club.
Jordi Alba joined Barcelona in 2012, and has since been one of their regular first-team starters. The 29-year old left-back, in a recent interview to Spanish channel ‘Television Espanola’, has made it clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona for the rest of his career.
The Barca defender was not selected in the Spain’s squad for the ongoing international break, where Spain won their first match of UEFA Nations League against England. Jordi Alba gave an interview to the Spanish channel where he stated that he wants to retire at FC Barcelona.
“My intention is to stay at Barcelona for my whole life, I hope I can retire at Barça,” said the defender, as quoted by Sport.
Jordi Alba’s current contract at the club expires in 2020, but Sport believes that the new contract for the defender should be on the table soon.
Alba also talked about being snubbed by Spain’s new manager Luis Enrique, who has formerly coached the defender during his time at Barcelona.
“These are decisions managers have to make and whether you like [the decision] or not, you have to accept it. I will try to give my best for my club and for the national team, if I am called up.

“I have improved a lot as I have got older. I am in a good moment in my life, but also on the pitch, where I have matured as a player. It’s not easy to play for Barça,” said Jordi Alba.
The left-back also opened up in the interview on the precautions he took to ensure less injuries. “In 2014, I started to get injuries and I visited the club’s dietitian. He gave me some advice and it’s worked out really well,” he said.
