Jordi Alna said to sign a new contract

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba is said for another four-year contract extension with the Blaugrana.

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba is set to extend his contract until 2023 with the Blaugrana. His contract deal runs up to the summer of 2020 after signing for the club six years ago following the Euro tournament where he put in some outstanding displays to earn a move to the reigning champions.

He has been constantly linked with Manchester United over the past few months, but Jose Mourinho decided to provide another chance to the young left-back Luke Shaw whose rise stagnated when he injured both his knee three years back in a Champions League clash. Besides, the Spanish outfit were not ready to allow him less than 130 million which forced the Red Devils to back off from proceeding.

However, the ever reliable Gianluca Di Marzio has said that the Spanish champions are said to reward a new contract for the defender who is one of the accomplished left-backs in the world right now. It is also understood that the new deal is worth nine million Euros following the acceleration in the defenders’ negotiations.

Jordi Alba registered an assist in a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo at Nou Camp on Saturday. Following the game, the left back spoke to the Spanish publication Marca.

The Barcelona defender answered when he was asked about the new contract “It doesn’t just depend on me, as it also depends on the club. When I signed for Barcelona it wasn’t for money. I came here for the feeling and because it is my home.

“In the end, it’s not enough to say that I’m a great player, as actions also matter. A deadline? When the contract ends.”

The stats suggest that Jordi Alba’s meteoric rise was under the management of Ernesto Valverde. He is rightfully rewarded with a new contract which is better for both the parties currently as Barcelona are without a senior backup in the left defensive flank department.

Barcelona have played their last game against Celta Vigo in this year on Saturday. They will have to travel to Getafe on January 6th as they prepare to take on the Spanish counterpart after the winter break.
