Jose Mourinho claims that Scott McTominay is Man Utd’s best player because of him. He made the statement while arguing the claim that he doesn’t develop youth players.
Jose Mourinho is arguably the most popular active manager in the world right now. He has won several league titles around Europe with some of the best clubs and has 4 European titles to boot; 2 Champions League titles and 2 Europa League titles.

He has led the likes of Porto and Inter Milan to Champions League glory. He has also helped Chelsea and Real Madrid curb the domestic dominance of Manchester United and Barcelona to help his sides to domestic glory.
However, the Portuguese has constantly been criticised for his handling of youth players. It is claimed that he prefers to bring in established players rather than building stars in his team. Mourinho was asked the same once again before Tottenham’s match vs Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
Jose Mourinho claims that Scott McTominay is Man Utd’s best player because of him
The journalist asked Mourinho:
“There has been some criticism of your handling of young players and academies in the past; maybe at Chelsea and United. Do you think that’s been fair criticism? And are you determined to prove at Tottenham that it was unfair.”
Mourinho then sarcastically responded:
“Yes, it’s very important [to bring through youth], Scott McTominay is only the best player at Manchester United.
“Raphael Varane is one of the best players in the world, yes, it’s fair criticism.”
“Scott McTominay is only the best player at Manchester United” 😅

Scott McTominay made his Manchester United debut under Jose Mourinho back in 2017 and played regularly under him. Mourinho even went on to create a whole new award; labelled the ‘Manager’s player of the season’ just to hand it to the Scotsman. Although, it has been hypothesized that it was done just to spurn Paul Pogba.
McTominay has since risen to become a vital component of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. He is the most improved player in the team. Although, for every McTominay and Varane he reminds the world of, he will also forever be made to remember the names of Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne.
