Jose Mourinho has been told that he will not be given the finance to overhaul Tottenham this January. The new head coach will have to work with the existing squad.
Jose Mourinho has an interesting repertoire of clubs in his CV. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United being the most notable of them all. However, barring Porto and to an extent Inter Milan, the Portuguese has always been given a war chest to shape the squad in the manner that he desires.

Although Tottenham happens to be one of the top clubs in England, they do not boast of the financial might of the other teams in the big 6. A reality that Mourinho has now had his eyes open to after being told that he will not be provided with the finance to carry out transfers in the upcoming window in January.

According to the Guardian, the Portuguese has been asked to work with the existing players in the squad and will have to look to the academy for new players. At the moment of the announcement of his signing, Mourinho had said:
“I really like this squad and looking to the young players. There is not one manager in the world that doesn’t like to play young players and to help young players to develop. There is not one.
“The problem is that sometimes you get into clubs where the work that is below you is not good enough to produce these players. So I look to our history and you see that the academy is always giving the talents that the first team needs. And, of course, I also look forward to work with that profile.”
It looks like Mourinho will have to live by those words.
It was also reported that during negotiations to take the manager’s job, Mourinho told the chairman, Daniel Levy, that Harry Kane must not be sold next summer.
With the club making huge repayments on their new stadium, the club desperately need that sweet Champions League revenue. Mourinho’s task this season is to take the Lilywhites to a top 4 finish. His first assignment will be West Ham on Saturday.
