Jose Mourinho reveals Ed Woodward texted him after landing Tottenham Job

Jose Mourinho reveals Ed Woodward texted him after landing Tottenham Job. The Portuguese was Manchester United boss for 3 seasons.

Jose Mourinho has a long history in the Premier League. He first broke Manchester United and Arsenal’s duopoly in the league by leading Chelsea to back to back Premier League titles before winning the league with them once again during his second stint.

He then made his move to Manchester United after being sacked by the club. A second-place finish in his first season and the Premier League title in his second was followed by a disastrous 3rd season that left Chelsea very close to relegation.

A very similar pattern followed at Old Trafford. While he failed to win the Premier League with Manchester United, he took them to a second-place finish and won the Europa league with them in his two seasons. His third year with the club bought them to the brink of relegation and he was once again let go mid-season.

The circumstances surrounding his exit led many to believe that the relationship between the club and him may have soured. However, in an interesting development, Mourinho has disclosed that a number of his colleagues from Manchester United including Ed Woodward messaged him when news of him taking over as Tottenham head coach broke out.

“I received messages from everybody, everywhere (from my former clubs),” Jose Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

“Maybe I get the opportunity to apologise for not answering 500 of them that I couldn’t answer. I have 700 but only had time to answer 200.

“But it was curious to see, from my last club, so many people showing me that respect, empathy and feeling. It was nice.

“All of them were special. The first one was from (United managing director) Richard Arnold. The third, fourth or fifth was Ed Woodward. And they were my bosses.”
