Jose Mourinho stars in a hilarious ad with Paddy Power poking fun at various moments from his career
The advertisement starts with Mourinho reading a newspaper which asks ‘What next for the Special One?’
A reference to his nickname ‘The Special One’. He talks about greatness demanding consistency before adding that not all achievements lead to trophies. A reference to the moment he claimed that finishing second with Manchester United was his greatest achievement.
There are thinly veiled references all over the ad such as having a bookcase featuring novels ‘Le Specialiste En Failure’ and ‘The Voyeur’. A nod to his war of words with Arsene Wenger when he was the manager of Chelsea.
Park the Bus
The bookcase also features a bus. A reference to his playing style of parking the bus. The bookcase also includes a book called ‘learn to speak German’ possibly alluding to the rumors of him going to Bayern also supported by the laundry bin bought by the maid reminiscent of the time he snuck into one to get into the dressing room during a champions league ban.
There is also reference to his time as Chelsea’s manager during the cute season with the dog, with Didier written on the dog bowl and I love JT written on the fridge.
The ad also features a hedge with 3 fingers alluding to the 3 premier league titles he’s won.
The penultimate scene in the ad has Jose visiting a restaurant, which according to Paddy Power was written by Mourinho himself. The scene ends inside a cab with Jose winning the Jackpot before he’s told by the cabbie that one doesn’t have to be special to win the Jackpot in the featured app.
The advertisement is very well thought off with Jose’s hilarious commentary on being special the exact opposite of what he did when the moment actually presented itself to him. You can watch the advertisement here.
