The Karim Benzema blackmail case is likely to be dropped, as the decision is set to be revealed next month.
The blackmail case, which involves French players Karim Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena could be dropped. The court ruling has been postponed and the decision on the case will now be made on November 8 this year.
Karim Benzema was one of the six names accused of blackmailing the current Fenerbahce midfielder Mathieu Valbuena over a sex-tape in 2015.
However, the involvement of an undercover police officer has now surfaced, who actions are believed to have incited those charged to commit the offence.
Karim Benzema blackmail case:
The lawyers of the defendant argued their case behind closed doors earlier this week, on Monday. Following the proceedings, the Court of Cassion (highest judicial court in France) will provide their verdict.
IOL: Benzema and three of the other suspects had asked for the case against them to be dropped. They say police used “dishonest” methods by posing as a friend of Valbuena in a telephone conversation with one of the accused, Younes Houass, and urging the payment of a ransom.

“What he did was completely underhand, and an underhand investigation is fortunately punished in a law-abiding country,” said Eric Dupond-Moretti, who is currently the member of Karim Benzema’s legal team.
“We’ll now see what the consequences are of this ruling. We’re leading 3-0 in the 89th minute, but there is still a minute left.
“Of course I would like the whole investigation to be dropped. A policeman who invents a name for himself to call back the supposed blackmailers and start them off again is quite amazing.
“In this case, when they saw the names Valbuena and Benzema, the investigators felt wings grow.”
