Boateng on Manchester United transfer

Boateng on Manchester United transfer: Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has opened up on failed move to Manchester United.

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho were left to watch on as Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all spent burly sums of money in the summer transfer market. Unfortunately for anybody associated with the Red Devils, there was no profound happiness due to lack of transfer activity.

They were linked with a huge number of big names but failed to land even one of them. It looks like Jose Mourinho was okay to lose out on a few attacking players who were targeted but adamant about wanting a central defender. Failure in landing even one of his projected candidates left the former Chelsea boss discontent.

Spurs’ Alderweireld and Leicester’s Harry Maguire were the two strongly linked names with a move to the Old Trafford. Neither of them signed for the club as they transfer window slammed shut, while the Englishman also closed the door on a potential transfer in the near future by signing a five year contract at the King Power Stadium.

Another world class defender that was linked with a move was Jerome Boateng. The German was also linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain but stayed put at Bayern Munich. Speaking to the media from his homeland, he revealed why he rejected United and also confirmed PSG’s interest. In addition, he also spoke to Jose Mourinho on phone regarding the snub.

“I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honor for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me. ‘I explained to him that it’s difficult to leave, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club,’ explained Boateng.

He told the Bild that he had ‘enquiries’ from Man United and PSG but opted to remain in Germany because everything was ‘in place’.

The Red Devils have 2 losses and wins apiece in the Premier League and will visit the Vicarage Road to take on Watford this weekend.
