Why Dinesh Karthik argued with umpires

Why Dinesh Karthik argued with umpires: The Knight Riders’ captain was seen in an on-field argument with the umpires.

During the sixth match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab at Kolkata, confusion was at the helm in the second innings when the umpires gave four penalty runs to the hosts.

It was at this point in time that Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik and senior player Robin Uthappa were seen in a severe argument with the umpires. Despite the umpires asking Karthik to calm down, the KKR skipper seemed to be in no mood of easing-off.

Kings XI captain Ravichandran Ashwin was seen in discussion with the fourth umpire at the boundary. With no one having a clue regarding the series of events, wild guesses were being made in the name of assumptions. After the chaos settled, it was known that the umpires have given four runs to KXIP as overthrows.

It all happened on the first delivery of the sixth over when Kings XI Punjab batsman Mayank Agarwal pushed a Prasidh Krishna delivery on the off-side to run a single. Assuming the general notion of ball becoming dead, KKR batsman Nitish Rana casually lobbed the ball to Andre Russell, who was fielding at mid-on.

With Russell losing sight of the ball due to the floodlights, he failed to catch the ball. With the ball going to the boundary, the umpire signaled four overthrow runs. Eventually, the KKR players made peace with the fact that they have conceded four runs off a howler.

After Ashwin put in the hosts in to bat, Kolkata Knight Riders ended up scoring 218-4 in 20 overs. Having lost their opening batsmen in the powerplay, Punjab have a daunting task lying in front of them.
