Lionel Messi: Kylian Mbappe challenges Lionel Messi for a precious individual award

Kylian Mbappe will be challenging Lionel Messi for the golden shoe.

Kylian Mbappe is the poster boy of football at the age of 20. The French International has been sparking by outshining some of the world’s best over the last two years, going on to win the World Cup and Ligue 1 title with Monaco and Paris Saint Germain.

The 20-year-old has scored 32 goals in the Ligue 1 this season, meanwhile, Lionel Messi has struck 36 times, including two against Eibar on Sunday.

Despite Messi scoring a brace to extend his lead to four, Kylian Mbappe has insisted that he has not given up on the golden shoe.

“I’m aiming for the Golden Shoe this year,” he said at the Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionnels awards, according to the Daily Mirror.

“This afternoon I took a break in my nap to see Messi’s match – after his two goals I went back to bed!

“I still have 90 minutes, I have nothing to lose!”

The Paris Saint Germain forward was tipped Real Madrid last summer, but Paris Saint Germain had already agreed on a deal to take him on a permanent basis. Besides, he was also alluring interest from the English outfits Liverpool and Manchester City when he just 16, but Monaco decided to keep him at any cost.

Despite PSG’s domestic success, their successful outcome in the Champions League is far less. This would have made Kylian Mbappe look for a move away from Parc Des Princes in the summer transfer window.

During the PSG awards ceremony, Kylian Mbappe said that he would be open to offers when was asked whether his future lies in Paris.

The World Cup winner, who won the Ligue 1 player of the year award, said: “This was the only title that I was missing. I am truly very happy,”

“I want to dedicate it the president, I know that he was affected by a tragedy this year. I want to thank all of the people who put together this league. I succeeded in adapting in my first year, to change position this year.

“There were some disappointments, but that is part of football. This is a very important moment for me. I am arriving at the second turning point in my career. I have discovered an enormous amount of things here.

“It is maybe the moment to have more responsibilities, maybe at PSG, with pleasure, or elsewhere for a new project. In any case thanks everyone!” said Mbappe.
