Lionel Messi News: Manchester City social media hints at the possibility of singing Barcelona Superstar amidst row with Eric Abidal.

One of the biggest stories in football right now is the very public spat between Lionel Messi and Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal. The turmoil at Camp Nou has spilled out. So much so, that many have spoken on the possibility of Messi walking away from the club at the end of the season.

At the moment there is no concrete destination for the Argentine to head to, should he chose to part ways with the club he has played all his life for. However, Manchester City seem to have stroke the flames of their possible candidacy on Social Media.

Several news outlets reported Manchester City as Lionel Messi’s next club. That is, if he activates the clause on his contract that allows him to leave on a free this summer. Surprisingly, the club seemed to entertain these rumours with an entire article dedicated to them on their Twitter page.

It is common for football clubs to have a media watch segment on their official website keeping a tab of all news surrounding the club. However, it is not very common for clubs to involve themselves with rumours of this magnitude.

It is unlikely that Messi will ever leave Barcelona. However, if he does ever leave, City would count themselves as a very possible destination. They are among the very few clubs that could both match Messi’s ambitions on the field and his wage demands off it.

So as shocking as the act may seem, it is not out of the realm of possibility. Although, this is still a highly unusual act for a club as big as City.
