Lionel Messi has been ousted from the World Cup and will be returning to Barcelona in a short period of time to get back to training at the Nou Camp.

The new season is upon us and pre-season training is underway for almost all European clubs.

With the transfer market very volatile at this moment, with the World Cup going on, it is important for clubs to identify core targets and go for ambitious one’s post the World Cup.

Barcelona desperately need a couple of world class reinforcements in order to challenge Real Madrid at the European level.

Don Balon reports that Messi has identified Paul Pogba as one of those replacements, one that will strengthen Barcelona’s midfield and help them get that oomph now that Iniesta has retired.

Pogba has been having a brilliant time in the World Cup with France and is scheduled to take on Uruguay in the quarter finals.

However, his time at Manchester United hasn’t been all smooth sailing, due to heavy criticism and an apparent fall out with Jose Mourinho.

Reports claim that Pogba wants out for a second time at Old Trafford and could set up camp at the Nou Camp.

Iniesta’s move away from Barcelona has left a massive void in the midfield, one which requires a player who can dictate the tempo of play and drive forward on the back of some dribbling skills.

Pogba does have the required skills and is well built too, something that could help him dominate the La Liga midfield.

If he indeed decides to make the move and is allowed to play in his preferred positions, it could prove to be one of the shrewdest moves of the transfer window.
