Liverpool Injury News: Alisson Becker And Fabinho Set To Return Against Chelsea

Jota’s return continues to remain up in the air for the moment

For Liverpool, the ongoing season has been one which has offered little in the way of solace when it comes to injuries. The side has persistently been fraught with multitude injuries, ones which have come across as a massive setback in the club’s aspirations of retaining the title.

However, for the first time, the club finally had some good news to herald in when it came to injuries. Speaking ahead of his team’s encounter against Chelsea on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Fabinho and Alisson would both be returning to the team’s playing 11 while Jota could make a surprise return as well.

Klopp Provides Injury Update

“So Ali trained now for the full week and yes we should expect that he is able to return,” said Klopp.

“Fab has now five or six sessions in his legs. We have to make a decision how we deal with that, but it looks good. He is ready for the squad for sure.

“And Diogo had a little stomach problem. He trained yesterday, only a little bit, so he was only out there for the rondo, the warming-up and then a little run. “We got the message this morning that he feels better again, so we will see what we can do with that.

“As I said before, Diogo was doing exceptionally well but then unfortunately he got ill overnight “So now we have to see how big the steps are that he can make towards the team again.”

Fabinho Could Return To Typical Midfield Role

“Both is possible. It’s true. It’s good,” said Klopp when asked about where Fabinho would be deployed.

“It gives us options in different moments. I think if we can find a way to bring Fab back in midfield that would be in, some games, quite helpful.

“I think the most consistent player this season is Gini Wijnaldum, long may it continue. He has played as a No6 and he has played in all these kind of positions.

“But with Fab at No6 in some games would be absolutely helpful. We will see.”

Virgil, Gomez, Henderson and Matip meanwhile all continue to remain sidelines with injuries. Liverpool are currently adrift of Chelsea by the one point and one position with today’s winners easing their way into the top 4.
