Liverpool News: Will Liverpool take part in Club World cup after Champions League triumph?

There are contrary reports about the Club World Cup this year.

Club World Cup is a FIFA recognised tournament which sees the best side from each continent take part in it. Similar to the Champions League winners, tournaments winners across all countries will take part in this competition. Real Madrid have won this accolade in the last three years, with the European sides huge dominance over the years.

Liverpool have won the UEFA Champions League by beating Tottenham Hotspur at Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday. The Reds won the game 2-0, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi. With that victory, they will compete for the UEFA Super Cup which has been rumoured to be ejected for next two seasons.

Albeit the contrary reports from several publications, the Reds will take part in the Club World Cup. The rumours of scrapping out 2019 and 2020 Club World Cup are incorrect and the tournament will recommence this year. Liverpool will enter the tournament at the semi-final stage, meaning will play two games – the Semifinals and final or third-placed playoff.

FIFA are planning for a 24-side tournament in June and July which has caused the dubiety among the supporters. That format is expected to kick off from 2021, although the current chronology will not be brought to an end, with two years of interruption.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) were the Club World Cup (CWC) hosts over the last two years. The decision on the hosting nature will be taken into account as FIFA arrange a meeting at 3 PM at France to get the definite answer on the future format today.

Tunisian side Esperance de Tunis will be the African representative, whereas, CONCACAF Champions League winners, Monterrey, who hail from Mexico, will be the side to compete in this tournament from North America. The other club in the competition are Hienghene Sport from New Caledonia, after they won the OFC Champions League. There are three slots left, and Sides from Asia, and South America will be confirmed in the forthcoming months.
