Liverpool Transfer News: Jurgen Klopp responds to speculations of Philippe Coutinho re-joining Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp has dismissed the possibility of Liverpool re-signing Philippe Coutinho despite widespread speculations.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool hold nil intentions of re-signing Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
Following the comments from his agent, who was unhappy with Barcelona’s dealing with the player, links surfaced over the last few days. The German, who sold the attacking midfielder to Spanish giants, has put those rumours to bed. The Liverpool boss iterated that the Reds would not be able to spend a huge amount on a player and wished him well at Nou Camp.
Klopp said: “In general, Phil Coutinho helps each team in the world, still — 100. It’s not about that. I like Phil, I think he’s a fantastic footballer and all that stuff, but it would be a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big-money signing and it’s not our year for that.
“It’s just not possible. As I said, having him would make each team better — us included — but I really hope that he finds his luck at Barcelona.
“Or maybe he found it there. We have contact, but not that close contact that I know exactly how he is doing, but the rest is only newspaper talk and stuff like that.
“If everything was true what newspapers write about me — wow! If it’s similar to what they write about me, I would say he’s completely happy at Barcelona and wants to sign a new six-year contract or whatever.” added Liverpool gaffer.
Since Klopp already has a well-built squad, the reigning Champions League winners are willing to do minimal business this summer. ESPNFC have also categorically ruled out a potential loan deal for Philippe Coutinho, who spent four-and-a-half-year at the club since his move from Inter Milan in 2013.
Liverpool are continuously linked with Nicolas Pepe, and the player is set to make a decision over his future in the coming days.
