Lucas Digne has announced his departure from Barcelona after two years at the club.

Lucas Digne signed for Barcelona in 2016 after a commendable Euro 2016 with France. Just two years into his spell with the Catalan giants, the French has confirmed his departure from Barcelona via his Instagram handle. The reason for his departure was mainly lack of playing time due to Jordi Alba’s consistent showing.

The 25 year old still has a lot of talent and football left in him and can go on to make a name elsewhere. As a result, he has decided to leave. In his Instagram post, he extended heartfelt and emotional thanks to everyone at Barcelona. He stated that a childhood dream had become complete at Barcelona. He signed off by wishing the club the best for the next season and extending gratitude towards the fans.

The French left back brings down the curtains on a short lived yet successful career with the Catalans. Despite not being a regular starter with Barcelona, the former Paris Saint Germain youngster won four trophies during his time at the club. Those included two Copa del Rey titles and one La Liga and Spanish Super Cup.

While he has not written or spoken publicly about his new club, it is almost certain to Everton. The Toffees appointed Marco Silva this summer and the former Watford boss had Digne on his list since a while. The 25 year old will be used as a replacement for Leighton Baines, who is now 33.

Lucas Digne will be the club’s second major signing of the transfer window. They signed Richarlison from Watford for 40 million pounds last week. Lack of playing time with Barcelona and just 12 league appearances cost Digne a place in the France World Cup squad, despite being named in the standby list.

He would be optimistic about success at Everton who built a strong squad over the last few transfer windows having signed a few quality players.
