Lucas Torreira back in training

Arsenal are hit by Lucas Torreira injury concern, as the midfielder picked up a knock during the international break.

Arsenal received a blow during the international break as their new signing Lucas Torreira might not feature in the squad against Newcastle.

Torreira is yet to make a start for Arsenal, and was subbed at half time after picking up a knock while on international duty with Uruguay. He sat through the second half with an ice-pack on his left leg as Uruguay cruised to a 4-1 victory over Mexico.

The Uruguayan midfielder signed for Arsenal this year after his exceptional performances for the country at the World Cup in Russia. He joined Mateo Guendouzi as one of the two midfield signings under Arsenal’s new head-coach, Unai Emery.

The Gunners underwent a major overhaul this summer, with five major signings for the season. Lucas Torreira has made appearances from the bench in the Premier League games for Arsenal so far, and been impressive in his performance.

With Granit Xhaka struggling with form in the central midfield, Lucas Torreira was pinned to replace the Swiss international. Mateo Guendouzi has been terrific for Arsenal in his first month at the club after Unai Emery placed his faith in the midfielder since their season opener against Manchester City.

While Guendouzi wil lmaintain his place in the midfield, Torreira was expected to pair with him at the centre of the pitch.

ESPN journalist Ben Dinnery has informed that Torreira’s injury will be assessed and the final decision will be made soon.

Arsenal are currently 9th in the Premier League with six points in four games.
