Luka Modric insisted that he shares a good relationship with his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Modric played for Croatia last night against Portugal, while Ronaldo opted for rest during the international break.
There were reports about Ronaldo being unhappy at not winning the UEFA Best Player of the Year award. However, Modric has put down the rumours in his interview after the match, which finished in a 1-1 draw.
“I have a good relationship with him, he sent my a message congratulating me for winning it and that he hopes to see me soon,” said Modric on Cristiano.
“I get on well with Cristiano, we will continue to do so, nothing will change. The individual awards are important but the most important is the group.
“I am happy to be (in the list for The Best). The players and coaches decide so we will see,” said Modric.
Modric, Ronaldo and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah made the three-man shortlist who will be competing for FIFA The Best award. Ronaldo has won the award since its inception in 2016.

Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo were teammates at Real Madrid and won the Champions League title for the third consecutive time last season. The ‘Los Blancos’, however, received a major blow when Zidane resigned merely four days after the European triumph, and Ronaldo moved to Juventus a month later.
There were also reports of Modric moving to Inter Milan towards the end of the summer transfer window, with their manager showing deep interest in him. However, the Croatian denied the possibility of the move.
FIFA ‘The Best’ award function is to be held on September 24 in London.
