Luka Modric to Inter Milan

Luka Modric to Inter Milan: The Real Madrid midfielder has reportedly rejected a new deal at the club.

Real Madrid have had a difficult season so far. After a disappointing start to the season, which led to the sacking of Julen Lopetegui as Real Madrid manager, Santiago Solari steered a comeback with Club World Cup victory.

However, the side is 4th in the La Liga table, behind Barca, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo led to Real Madrid’s worst goalless run in club’s history, and consistent injury issues with Gareth Bale marred the season further.

And now, Luka Modric, who was central to Real Madrid’s success in the Champions League last season, might be set to follow Ronaldo’s path to Serie A.

Luka Modric to Inter Milan:

Luka Modric was heavily linked with a move away from Real Madrid at the beginning of the season. The Croatian star was rumoured to sign for Inter Milan, but there was no substantial deal in place from the Italian side.

It has now been reported by regional television channel TeleMadrid that Modric has rejected a new deal with the club.

The media outlet claimed that he is currently examining the offer from Inter Milan, which is rumoured to be in the region of 10 million euros per year, for two years. It would be followed by a move to China, where he will presumably retire.

Luka Modric won the UEFA Player of the Year, FIFA Best player of the year and Ballon d’Or awards this year for his brilliant performances for Real Madrid and the Croatian national team.

The midfielder led Croatia to their first ever World Cup final in Russia this summer.

Earlier, in the summer transfer window, Inter Milan’s manager Luciano Spalletti stated that the midfielder had expressed interest in joining the Italian side.

“About Modric, it is the sporting director who deals with that. I am not sure how this will finish. That he has shown interest to join us is obviously positive, we are trying to create the right conditions for him to join Inter Milan,” Spalletti stated.
